SKINFOOD Black Sugar Honey Mask Wash Off

3:18:00 AM
Ever since I watched Korean dramas/show, I've been addicted on shopping for Kbeauty (also known as Korean Beauty) products as I adore that flawless, glowing and youthful skin that Korean woman have. Well, not that I don't like my skin but don't you love it when your skin looks flawless? "Imagine yourself applying light makeup with minimal cover ups... that would be amazinggg!" I don't know when it started but I just find myself shopping for Kbeauty skincare products and ever since, I saw great results on my skin.

I love using sheet masks to relieve my stress out skin but this time, it will be a liquid exfoliating mask from Skin Food. I've been using this for over a year now and been contemplating whether I should add this on my favorites. I think it is now time to settle my thoughts once and for all.

Claims:
The SkinFood Black Sugar Honey Mask Wash Off is a skin-softening mask that contains mineral-rich Brazilian black sugar and moisturizing honey for soft, glowing skin.
I'm obsessed on using sheet masks and they are my favorite part in my skin care routine but as soon as I saw this liquid wash off mask from a Kbeauty site, my curiosity led me to buy it.

Benefits of Black sugar on skin:

  • Exfoliates dead skin
  • Very gentle on the skin keeping it hydrated
  • Get rid of our blackheads and whiteheads
  • Keeps our skin bright, elastic and healthy
  • Contains anti-ageing properties

Benefits of Honey on skin:

  • Moisturizes skin
  • Calms any irritation on your skin
  • Contains anti-bacterial properties which is good on cleaning our pores
  • Heals any skin injuries and treats acne
  • Protect your skin from damages (environment)
  • Make skin soft and smooth
  • Rich in antioxidant which delays the aging of the skin
Packaging
The mask is placed in a small tub which is sealed by a thick paper foil to avoid product spillage. As soon as you remove the seal, you'll see the honey on top so make sure you shake or mix it before using. It doesn't come with a spatula or spoon so I use a spare plastic spoon to mix it well and get the product easily.

Consistency & Scent
Once you mix the sugar and honey together, it will look like syrup with sugar granules in it. It has a pretty strong scent of honey with a matching scent of sweet sugar which reminds me of a dessert (sweetened banana or 'minatamis na saba' in Tagalog) that my mom used to make.

Application & Performance
I use a small spoon to take the product out from the tub and apply a generous amount on my face. "Don't use your fingers to get the product to avoid contamination." It was easy to spread on the skin since the honey made it possible to move around the face. You can feel small granules of sugar when you massage it around your face which is pretty relaxing. I thought that the sugar will be harsh on my skin but it was really gentle and comfortable to massage around the face. "Make sure to massage it in a freshly damped face as per instruction."

After massaging, I left it for about 10-15 minutes and it feels like some of the sugars are melting making it look like a syrup. The mask is not that hard to remove since it's wet and does not feel dry at all. After rinsing, it made my skin ultra soft and smooth without that sticky feeling. It feels like my face is coated with honey afterwards which bothers me a LOT but for the sake of my skin, I just let it be. *laughs*

Overall thoughts, it did slightly brighten my skin but I was expecting it to be brighter. "I think it would be better if there's more sugar in the tub." What impresses me about this mask is the fact that I don't need to apply my daily moisturizer since it will make your skin hydrated. I did say that black sugar is good for removing blackheads and whiteheads but the product didn't claim that it can remove them. I've been using the mask for about 3-4 months now and base on my observation, I can say that they lessened a bit. Also, take note bloomers that I only use them once or twice a week since daily exfoliation is harsh for the skin.

POSITIVES

  • Secure packaging
  • Affordable
  • Sweet scent
  • Exfoliation is gentle on the skin
  • Moisturizes skin
  • Skin felt soft and smooth
  • Good for dry skin

NEGATIVES

  • Doesn't include spoon or spatula
  • Overpowering scent
  • Leaves an uncomfortable feeling after rinsing. (Face coated with honey)
  • Slightly brightened my face (I was expecting more)
Will I recommend?
If you are looking for a gentle exfoliating mask, then give this product a try because this won't rip off your skin dry. Although it doesn't do a great job for brightening the skin, it will make your skin moisturize without the need to apply your moisturizer right after using this mask.

And that's it for my review on the Black Sugar Mask Wash Off mask from SkinFood and I hope you enjoyed reading my post. I'm thinking of doing a review on the original black sugar mask wash off since I have it on my stash. Do let me know if you're interested so we'll know which is better!
